The Veena, a name derived from the Sanskrit word for stringed instrument, is an ancient and revered chordophone that holds a profound place in Indian music and culture. Often referred to as the “Mother of all stringed instruments,” it is a cornerstone of Indian classical music, particularly in the Carnatic tradition of South India. Beyond its musical identity, the Veena is a sacred instrument, often depicted in the hands of the goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, music, and art.
