An Anganwadi Worker (AWW) is a grassroots-level, frontline community health and childcare worker in India. They are the primary functionaries of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program, which is one of the world’s largest government-run initiatives to combat child hunger, malnutrition, and a lack of education. An AWW is typically a woman from the local community who operates an Anganwadi center, which serves as a hub for providing essential services to children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
